Natural History of Southern California
Bio 9

This course is designed as an introductory course into the general habitat types in Southern California, with basic plant and animal identification of each of those areas.  In addition, the processes that allow organisms live in their environment will be studied.  It is a course that compliments Principles of Ecology (Bio 8), but you don't have to have taken any ecology course prior to taking natural history.  You will learn what plants and animals are found in various locations in Southern California, and what factors shape where you find these organisms.  Field-trips are required, and will be discussed in class.

Here is a copy of this semesters course syllabus.

Here are the outlines for the topics which will be discussed in class:
    California's Natural Regions
    Basic Geology
    Basic Ecology

Update, Tuesday, May 21

Good morning!

Thank you to everyone who was able to either go to the intertidal communities, and/or on our mountain trip this last weekend.

We have class this Friday, May 23.  I was almost called into more meetings on Friday, but I now only have a conflict on Thursday afternoon.  Lets have a potluck (bring some food/drinks!).

Here is the assignment for the posters and the report, which is due Friday, May 30.  I wanted to give you plenty of time to format your paper and poster, after doing your initial research.

Give me a call (222-8535) or email (greg.burchett@rcc.edu) if you have any questions.  :-)
