RCC Dance Department is a comprehensive dance program offering a wide range of dance technique and academic classes for the beginning dancer as well as the dance transfer student. In addition to the extensive course offerings, the Riverside Community College Dance Department also provides extracurricular dance events such as the MASTER CLASS SERIES, ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL DANCE FESTIVAL, attendance at the AMERICAN COLLEGE DANCE FESTIVAL, and the WORKS-IN-PROGRESS CONCERT SERIES. The DANCE TOURING ENSEMBLE, a touring student dance group, brings the art of dance to elementary schools, middle schools and high schools throughout San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
The Dance Department at Riverside Community College continues it's long standing tradition of presenting engaging and entertaining dance to Riverside and surrounding communities with four mainstage concerts. During the Fall semester, the WORLD MUSIC AND DANCE CONCERT features music and dance from diverse world cultures, while KINETIC CONVERSATIONS, the annual faculty concert, presents new work by faculty and guest choreographers. Donald McKayle's Etude Ensemble, Variable Valocity, Stephanie Gilliland's TONGUE Dance Company, Wade Madsen and Dancers, Douglas Neilsen and Susan Rose Dancers are just a few of the professional dancers and companies that have graced the stage of Landis Auditorium for the always exciting, January COLLABORATIONS concert. CELEBRATE DANCE, the final concert of the year, focuses on the creative and fresh ideas of the student choreographer.
The RCC Dance Department also features a complete Pilates program located in the Eleanor Crabtree Pilates Studio on the City campus. Opened in the fall of 2002, the fully equipped, state-of-the-art studio includes a mat room, equipment room, changing rooms and restrooms. Pilates emphasizes balance, flexibility, and core strength through the use of basic mat exercises and equipment such as the "Universal Reformer".
