The
students at Riverside Community College have the
following options for receiving credit for world
language classes taught at RCC:
1)
Satisfactory completion of one or more world language
classes.
2)
Proof of satisfactory score on one of the following,
with credit granted by Admissions and Records:
a)
a College Board Advanced Placement Examination
(available in French, German, Latin, Spanish);
b)
a CLEP exam (available in Spanish, French and
German only).
NOTE:
These exams are not given on campus. You must
arrange to take these exams and have the results
submitted to Admissions and Records. See http://www.collegeboard.org/index.html
to find out where the AP exam is given. The CLEP
exam is administered at La Sierra University.
Call their learning support center (785-2453)
for days and times.
3)
Proof of satisfactory score on one of the following,
with credit granted through Credit-by-Exam process
(student must take the responsibility for filling
out all necessary paperwork):
a)
a College Board SAT II Subject Test in a language
other than English (available in Chinese, French,
German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin and Spanish)

b)
an International Baccalaureate Higher Level Examination
in a language other than English;
c)
an accredited exam determined by the department
to be equivalent to a) or b) in the languages
that are not addressed by the above-listed options.
Note: Number of credits granted will vary, depending
on the exam and proof of previous course work.
4)
Satisfactory completion of a higher-level course
in a foreign language taken at RCC, with credit
granted for previous courses through the Credit-by-Exam
process.
**Permission
to enroll in the higher-level course may be requested
by challenging the prerequisites based on previous
coursework. In the absence of such proof, in Spanish,
a competency exam is available for this purpose.
In other languages, lacking proof of previous coursework,
these challenges will be handled by oral interview
and written testing or the equivalent, as decided
by the department.
5)
Credit-by-exam is not available for listening comprehension
courses (51, 52, 53), conversation courses (8) or
heritage speaker courses (3N).
6)
Available on a credit/no-credit basis only.
