Directed Learning Activities (DLAs)

These instructor-assigned writing activites offer practice in course-specific student learning objectives.  Each DLA takes approximately 30-60 minutes to complete.

DLAs offer students an opportunity to review specific, course-related skills independently, and then to consult with an instructor or peer tutor as a culminating step of the activity.  Students may complete both portions of the DLA--the independent portion and the instructor or tutror consultation--at any time during the WRC's standard hours of operation.

All Directed Learning Activities have been designed by Riverside Community College English, ESL, and Reading faculty.  DLAs cover skills in the areas writing, reading, pronunciation (ESL), critical thinking, research and documetation, and grammar and mechanics. DLAs offer an invaluable supplement to the instruction you receive in your English, ESL, and reading classes.

Our staff members are here to answer any questions you have about DLAs and are happy to get you started on your way to mastering these course-specific student learning objectives.
