What is the WRC for?
The WRC’s
mission is to be a full-service resource for all students
working on writing, reading, and communication projects.
Who staffs the WRC?
Our staff includes Instructors-on-duty, a Reading
Professional, Peer Tutors, and Lab Aides. Look for our name tags.
We’re here for you!
Who must go to the WRC?
If your English or ESL class has a “laboratory”
requirement, you must go to the WRC. Check the current RCC Course
Schedule or Catalog for the number of required hours for your course.
Our staff will issue you a WRC card and show you how to log your hours.
Who has the right to use the WRC?
You must be in an English, ESL,
Journalism, Reading, or Speech
class. If your class does not have a lab requirement, you can sign
up for an English practicum—see below. (We hope that at a
future time we can open the WRC up to all enrolled RCC students.)
What are Eng 96 or Eng 97 Practicums?
If you are in an English, ESL,
Journalism, Reading, or Speech
class that does not have a required lab component, you can get access to
the WRC by signing up for a practicum. English 96 costs a half
credit and gives you up to 27 hours of access; Eng 97 costs a credit and
gives you up to 54 hours of access. It is okay if you
don’t use up all your practicum hours: you will get an NC (No Credit)
but this will not hurt your college record or affect your grade point
average.
Where can I fulfill my WRC hours?
At the WRC of any of the three RCC campuses—Moreno
Valley, Riverside, and Norco. Be aware that hours and policies of
the other WRCs may differ somewhat from those of Moreno Valley.
What should I bring with me to have a productive
consulting session?
Always bring your your instructor’s assignment,
your work in progress, and your books.
When can I consult with an Instructor-on-duty or
Reading Professional?
Anytime! Instructors-on-duty are being paid
to serve you. Consulting is on a drop-in basis—no appointments
required.
Do I need an appointment to meet with a Tutor?
No, you may drop in. But you can guarantee
time with the Peer Tutor by making a reservation. Reservation
slips and the schedule can be found at the front desk in the WRC.
Ask the Lab Aid or the Peer Tutor for assistance. You may
also call to make an appointment: (951) 571 - 6128.
What help can I get from the
Lab Aides?
Aides can introduce you to all the WRC resources.
And they can help you with the technical side of the WRC: logging in and
out, computer and printer problems. Just ask!
